  • The Citadel, Westhill
    • The courtyard just inside the main gate of the Westhill Keep is starting to come together.
    • The kitchen roof has been completely redone adding adequate space for servants quarters, and a smooth transition from the main stairs.
    • The east tower continues to be a challenge. Previously a small, shaped stone turret tower with a pointy dark oak roof, then bone blocks with spruce wood accents, and then completely changed into a tall, square stone tower with a battlement instead of a roof.

      • Nether Reeds from the Better Nether mod make the blue roof tile block we’ve all been hoping for. Unfortunately it involves making blocks out of sugarcane in a 6:1 ratio.

SUBJECT: Trail-ers And Tales

Greetings Jonny and Joel!

I recently rewatched some of the Minecraft cinematic trailers, specifically the Nether Update, and the Caves And Cliffs Part II trailers, which I find quite funny. I wondered if it was possible to make Minecraft feel like the trailers, which have a very different art style, and vibe than the vanilla game, and graphics.

In my research, I stumbled upon a modpack created by content creator Lowresbones that uses a few mods, the Bare Bones texture pack, as well as BSL shaders with custom settings run on OptiFine to make Minecraft look, and feel like the trailers. You can substitute the Sodium mod, and Iris mod for Optifine if you know what other mods to use.

Even though I could not run the BSL shaders with more than 3 FPS (RIP my potato PC.) I was very impressed with the results, which made the game look so much more like the cinematics than vanilla Minecraft. The custom shader settings brighten the game, and in combination with the Bare Bones texture pack, which is inspired by the trailers, looks fantastic. Lowresbones used this modpack in a Let’s Play series, which has many cool shots made with the Replay mod shots, which adds to the trailer vibes even further.

I would definitely recommend this pack for a short playthrough or for a change of scenery for anyone who is seeking a new angle on the sometimes dull vanilla graphics!

Kacer got lost wandering through his trailer world, while his laptop started smoking…
