The Spawn Chunks 406: Deep In The Woods

Jun 15, 2026 | podcast

Joel, and Jonny round up the final tweaks to Chaos Cubed before it hits the Minecraft launcher tomorrow, then dive into listener email to discuss new wood type chest wishes, the potential wisdom of owls, and the want to pick up the dappled forest, and take it with you.

SUBJECT: My Chests Match My Front Door

Hello!

I was listening to Episode 405 and there was a question about doors, and allowing the player to switch out wood types. I think chests should act similarly to how doors, and trapdoors act currently. The wood type would dictate the color, and the design of the chest. At minimal the color. The current chest could easily remain in the game when a player uses multiple wood types to make a chest, using 7 oak planks, and 1 spruce plank for example.

What are your thoughts?

Cinqo logged off in his new bedroom, imagining how good a dark oak ottoman would look at the foot of his bed.

SUBJECT: Continuing To Discuss Owls

Bassfiend joined the world.

Hello gents!

I was inspired by the conversation about owls from Hannah’s email in Episode 402. What if there was a mechanic to domesticate owls, and keep them around bases like cats? Instead of scaring off hostile mobs though, they could – when ‘perched’ near a crafting or enchanting table – give a ‘wisdom’ buff that could reveal unknown recipes or one of the extra enchantments available at max level.

Thanks for all the work you put into the show!

Bassfiend left the world.

SUBJECT: Poplar Biome Customization

Dear Joel and Pix,

The reddish grass tint in the new poplar biome looks fantastic! So much so that I find myself wishing it could bring those colors back home to my base.

Do you think it could be time for Minecraft to introduce an official way to alter some of the biomes in our worlds? This could allow for things like custom swamps with murky water, removal of pesky snow problems, or just bringing a beautiful biome tint to the area around a build.

What ideas come to mind for implementing such a feature?

Sage died from thinking too much about the color of grass.

Thanks to our top patrons!
