  • The Citadel | Mushroom Island Command Center
    • Took the power core chamber down another few levels, now even with the first cardinal tunnels dug when exploring the underside of the mushroom island.
    • Spent the rest of the week putting doors on the second floor wings of the command center.
      • This included the north wing currently being used as the main storage, and staging area.
        • There is still a lot of moving, and reshuffling of chests, barrels, and shulker boxes happening.
      • Tried out a few different materials, and adjusted from using polished tuff in the bulkheads to the higher contrast of quartz blocks, with a polished deepslate frame.
      • On the wings that don’t have anything in them, a temporary bay door has been put in to block the view of the inside skeleton of the outer walls. The doors are a combination of cyan terracotta, iron blocks with a connected texture, and the bottom of crafter blocks as a metal grating at the bottom of the door.
  • The Minecraft Survival Guide, Season 3
    • It was time to finally start converting drowned from the two zombie spawners unearthed in the copper facility dig.
      • Mocked up a design in creative that was very simple, but there were adjustments needed when rebuilding the design in the Survival Guide world due to some miscalculation of the distance between the spawners.
      • Drowned also behave differently during the day, so further adjustments were needed to keep them immersed in water during daytime.
      • Was hoping to use a spear to dispatch the mobs but the range of the spear, and the design of the killing area means the XP orb drops aren’t collected, and the weapon isn’t automatically repaired in time.
      • The real question now is whether reinforcement mechanics are worth using, and how to avoid getting nailed by tridents if the farm spawns natural drowned as well as converted drowned.

SUBJECT: Spear + Nautilus = Awesome

I finally interacted with my first nautilus the other day, and I of course had an enchanted spear with me. I also had an enchanted trident on me. After sixty seconds it was clear that the spear combined with the Nautilus dash was very powerful, and a lot of fun! One hit every mob I encountered. The trident on the other hand…

While I think the addition of the spear is great it’s pretty cheap to make, while the trident is a rare item especially on Java. Wouldn’t it make more sense for the trident to be more powerful than it is currently? I have had this thought before the spear was introduced. Shouldn’t Mojang have improved the trident in Mounts of Mayhem? Will they ever? Should they? If so, how do you guys think it should be changed?

Cinqo sat on the bottom of the ocean with his Nautilus buddy, dreaming about being able to hold right click to use riptide constantly…

SUBJECT: Rope Ladders In Minecraft

Hi Joel, and Jonny,

In Episode 385, when discussing maneuverability in Hytale, Pix mentioned using a water bucket as a grappling hook in Minecraft, but it has the downside of getting stuff wet below you.

Given that the player can already put climbable (well swimmable) blocks within reach, and pick them up from a distance with a bucket, I wonder if there’s a way to make a rope ladder in Minecraft? The main difference between a regular ladder, and a rope ladder could be that when it is broken – Perhaps with another rope ladder in your hand? – the rope ladder goes straight into your inventory rather than falling down as an item. Perhaps it could also be placed in midair if below another rope ladder, similar to how a water bucket can help with overhangs.

Tim finally explored that ravine because he knew he could get out safely without getting wet.

SUBJECT: Renewable Items

PIx, and Joel,

In a recent Hermitcraft video, some of the older members shared their thoughts around nerfing the rarity of name tags, stating that making them craftable reduces the desire to go explore dungeons for loot. Keep in mind there is already a method to get nametags in a renewable fashion with a small time investment in a villager trading hall. I could see that many newer players might not even know that part of the game loop even exists, making nametags inaccessible to a large population.

What are your thoughts on making previously rare items more easily renewable or craftable? Do you have any specific items that you would want to see get similar treatment?

SUBJECT: It’s Kinda Like Minecraft

Hi Pix, and Joel,

You have both recently discussed Satisfactory, and Enshrouded, and how they are similar to, and yet different from Minecraft.

Do you have any game recommendations that you describe as “It’s kinda like Minecraft but…” ?

Bonus points for coming up with some whacky comparisons.

TofuRedPanda might be alive or might be dead in Minecraft, but we don’t know, as she is off adventuring in other games.

Thanks to our top patrons!
