The Spawn Chunks 409: Pull Up A Cushion

Jul 7, 2026 | podcast

Jonny, and Joel grab a soft place to sit, rest their heads, and fluff around in the latest snapshots for Minecraft 26.3 – introducing the straw bed, and cushions! Plus, listener email weighing in on a savannah mob a lot farther off the ground.

    • Finished up the remaining stained glass “hologram” displays, and consoles in the villager trading wings.
    • Switched gears to something less creative, digging another 20 to 25 levels of deepslate out of the command center power core chamber.
      • With beacons, and end game tools it’s not terrible. About 5 levels per hour of streaming.
      • Using end rods for lighting is essential not just for seeing, but keeping mobs from spawning as some of the biome shifts to lush caves.
      • Expanding The Core Depth
      • Core Digging And Server Road Trip
      • Diggy Diggy Core Talky Talky Dogs
      • Estimating Y level -25 to be far enough to make the shaft look as though it has no bottom.
        • May try to do the glass fog effect, or perhaps a glass “light fog” effect, to further mask the bottom.
  • The Minecraft Survival Guide, Season 3
    • It’s a good thing England are still in the World Cup (at the time of this recording), because it feels all the more relevant that the next project is building a football pitch!
      • This is all to have a thematic area to test out the different Sulfur Cube archetypes for Survival Guide, but it’s also been a fun build to work on.
      • The pitch is stripes of grass and moss, with white concrete powder as markings, white concrete goalposts, and a seating area which makes use of the new polished Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks.
      • Right now it feels like a small local team would play lower league matches here, but the plan is to actually develop it over time, and make it feel more like a stadium.

SUBJECT: Expedition Elephant

Hi Joel and Jonny,

I was recently listening to Episode 402, and I think your idea for adding the elephant sounds very interesting, and exciting. I am a huge fan of the sniffer, and I think if the game had some more big passive mobs it would add more life to the game.

What if elephants spawn in groups of 3 or 4 in a Savanna, and had a high chance of spawning with one baby? If you tame the elephant with grass, vines or bamboo, it will become rideable. Killing an elephant would only drop one to two grass or tall grass. To discourage anyone from doing so , there will be a new achievement (or advancement), called “crossed the line”. You can earn this by killing an elephant, panda, or polar bear. What do you think?

Enoch has crossed the line far too many times.
