      • Taking a bit of time since it’s the fancy part of town, and the buildings are a bit larger, including shops with lots of detail, and The Spruce River Inn.
      • Tables & Chairs 2 (Modrinth.com) is also improving through the beta process:
        • Easier placement of items on tables.
        • Shift-placing chairs to avoid connections.

SUBJECT: Vibrant Visuals Lighting

Hi Joel, and Pix!

I watched your stream of the Minecraft Live event, and loved it. During the “Vibrant Visuals” segment I immediately wondered if this feature could be the first step to blocks that cast (Instead of emit?) light in Minecraft. It seems like having a more modern, but consistent way of handling light, and shadows across platforms would be a necessary first step, and might open the way for blocks to cast light, and color like in RTX. The visuals they showed varied a fair amount in “glow” provided by things like torches, but they also said it was the start of a long journey. What are your thoughts?

Love the podcast, and the various things you both do. Thanks for being your delightful selves!

SUBJECT: A Minecraft Movie Family Review

Hi Pix, and Joel,

My wife, and I just saw A Minecraft movie with our two kids who are 8, and 4. Here is our review. I tried to be brief.

Our 8 year old probably enjoyed it the most which wasn’t unexpected because he is the target demographic for this movie. We watch a lot of movies together as a family. At the end of each one we all say what our favorite part was. He couldn’t pick just one. He loved it all.

Our 4 year old liked it as well. It held her attention through the whole thing which is all we could ask for as parents. There were a few parts when it was maybe a little scary for her but there weren’t any issues. She’s just starting to play the game herself, and has seen all the mobs in Creative gameplay, but the animation style of the movie made it a little more intense. Her favorite part was “The whole thing…” as well, “But not the scary parts.”, and the second end-credit scene.

My wife, and I started playing Minecraft a year ago when our son started playing, so our perspective may be different than someone who has been playing a lot longer. Overall, we enjoyed the movie. We didn’t expect to see a cinematic marvel. We laughed throughout. (As well as other adults in the theater.) Personally I thought the flying scene between Black, and Momoa was hysterical. There were some things we could have done without, such as the villager/ Jennifer Coolidge bit. It didn’t seem to add anything to the movie. If it did it was lost on me. Although the very quick, subtle cameo by Jeb was nice.

Thank you guys for all you do!

A Spoiler Free Review Of A Minecraft Movie

Joel went to see A Minecraft Movie on opening night, and shares his spoiler free thoughts on the film, from the story, and the quirky characters, to the weird, and intense yet consistent visuals of the Overworld, and the Nether. A Minecraft Movie is getting attention for breaking opening weekend box office records for a video game movie, but also for the unruly behaviour of several groups of audience members disrupting the theatre experience for others.
