  • The Citadel | Westhill | North Road Cottage
    • The little cottage along the north road is finished!
    • Added stripped jungle wood to the roof to create some highlights, and brought in jungle trapdoors, fence gates, and signs to add details.
    • The back garden was the biggest change, with a natural partial hedge barrier, and custom crops using custom textures for potato, and beetroot, combined with flowering azalea bushes.
    • Finally adding some decorative flower beds, texturing the paths, and adding the small details inside, and out using the Wandering Trades mini blocks, and as Armour Statues datapacks.

I’ve been experimenting with datapacks a bit recently, and shared some of that experience in The Spawn Chunks Patreon Discord. What they’ve added this update is great, and I really hope to see more of the game opened up to datapacks. However the fact that datapacks are so hidden away when creating a new world, and how the experimental features system has almost hijacked them seemed odd to me. The game labeled my datapack as an experimental feature. The creativity that datapacks can provide – and that I predict they will provide in future updates – I think means datapacks should take a higher priority when creating a world.

I want to make it clear that I do not want the Bedrock Marketplace on Java Edition, but I do think removing some of the friction of adding datapacks to a world would go a long way, especially if Mojang is going to continue opening up more of the game to datapack modification in the future.

Very interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Crafting The Uncraftable

Jonny, and Joel ponder what the crafter could mean for future additions to Minecraft. Will more complex recipes encourage players to learn more complex crafter setups, or will complexity put players off using the crafter? Would lowering the crafters output disincentivize players using the crafter if manual crafting is more resource-efficient? Could new – or old – workstations benefit from having an interaction, or integration with crafter? One thing is for sure, there is a lot to balance when thinking about the downstream of auto-crafting in Minecraft.
