SUBJECT: Bringing The World To Life
Hi Pix, and Joel,
Something that has been rattling around in my brain for a while is that even with all the animals wandering around, the Overworld still feels very static. Blocks typically don’t change except when creepers destroy something, endermen move a block, or sheep need a snack.
I’ve tried to come up with ways in which the world could change outside of the player’s influence. Preferably non-destructive ways, like sheep eating grass. One concept I have is mobs eating leaf blocks, which then turn into something like branch blocks that over time regrow into leaf blocks.
I’m curious to hear what ideas the two of you can come up with, or maybe you don’t like the idea of a sheep ruining your perfectly composed color scheme.
ImpImperfect got lost in a forest, because the trees kept changing around him.

SUBJECT: Changing Old Mobs
Howdy Pix, and Joel
With last week’s snapshot 23W43A we saw changes made to the bat model, and animations. I personally love this change, and it made me wonder if we will see more changes to other older mobs by making them more modern. Perhaps making changes to squids or to the five farm animals (Chickens, pigs, cows, horses, and sheep).
What other mobs could see changes made to them in the future?
Kija tried to swim in lava while trying to follow bats in caves.

Material Matters
Inspired by a comment on a recent episode of The Minecraft Survival Guide, Jonny, and Joel discuss the influence of real-world context when choosing materials, and block textures in Minecraft. How does the name, texture, and even the location of a block in the world influence players’ decisions when building? When does it make sense to build within these confines, and when does it make sense to break the rules? Not only does the context of a block matter, but the intention behind an entire build can influence what blocks are being used.
