SUBJECT: Base In A Box (1.20 Thoughts)

Good day Pix, and Joel!

I’ve been playing a new realm in the 1.20 update and I wanted to share my quick thoughts.  It feels like Mojang has done a decent job at encouraging us to explore the world more, and I’ve been finding myself exploring more than building, which is unusual for me.

I’ve taken to utilizing a raft with a chest, and figuring out the materials I need to create temporary bases instead of settling down. Things like bamboo for wood, and its many varieties, (I love the mosaic option.) a few crops I want to grow for food, several decorations, and then a crafting table, and furnace. I set everything up, go explore, then come back, harvest the crops, and the wood, and take down my mini shelter, and throw it back into the raft to head off.

I’ve had to create a small space to drop my loot near spawn (A compass in Bedrock Edition always points to world spawn, so that’s easiest to find.) but it’s been a fun experience so far.

There’s a lot in this update, and some of the stuff from earlier updates (i.e. chest boats) I’ve found I’ve been using more recently.

Overall, I’m really happy with the 1.20 update!  Thank you so much for all you do!

Xenith got lost trying to find where her chests were until she remembered that compasses exist.

SUBJECT: Suspicious Dirt And Clay

Hello Joel, and Jonny,

After playing in the new 1.20 update (Which is amazing, by the way.) I realized the trail ruins, and other structures lack something that would make sense, archaeologically speaking.

In the back of my mind, I was expecting there to be suspicious dirt, and suspicious clay, even though I know they don’t exist in the game. The question keeps bugging me: why would remnants of an ancient people only be found in loose gravel? Should Mojang add suspicious dirt and clay?

Thanks for a great podcast!

SUBJECT: Silk Touch II

Hi Pix, and joel,

I’ve had this idea at the back of my mind for a while, but after watching Season 3, Episode 6 of The Minecraft Survival Guide(really enjoying it btw!) I really wanted to share it with you guys.

What if there was a Silk Touch II enchantment that allowed you to pick up items that are unattainable even by the regular Silk Touch enchantment? For example; budding amethyst, cakes, (Because there’s nothing worse than spending all that time making a cake only to accidentally place it on the floor.) mob spawners, infested stone, reinforced deepslate…

Obviously this enchantment would be insanely overpowered, (The mob spawners!) and so it would have to be balanced somehow. I was thinking that you would only be able to find it in chests, and it would have a rarity similar to that of enchanted golden apples.

I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on this, and if you have any other ideas to do with balancing it.

Love the podcast!!

Leannamaee accidentally placed her cake in a doorway, and couldn’t pick it up again 🙁

SUBJECT: Constraints

Good Timezone,

With the upcoming 1.20 update, the start of The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3, and the continuation of Westhill, I was wondering something.

Do either of you ever feel constrained due to the nature of the streaming content that you produce?

Pix, you are probably best known for The Minecraft Survival Guide. You stated that you were not thrilled with the seed for Season 2, and that you are excited to get moving on the third season.  Do you feel like you have to go back to the series? Would you abandon The Minecraft Survival Guide, if something else took off?

Joel, Westhill is a huge project of two-plus years. I know you have taken a break here, and there to build this, that, or the other. Someday, Westhill will be done.  Will you move onto another massive build, or will you be trying out something stylistically different?

McScrewGunn disappears in a boat, never seen again, trying to see if the world outside is actually infinite.

Thank you to our Patrons!
