SUBJECT: Procedural Is The Way

Greetings Jonny and Joel!

One of the most rewarding things about exploring is bumping into unexpected terrain features like spectacular jagged peaks surrounded by jungle, or exposed lush caves within cliffs next to the sea.

I was wondering if perhaps dungeons should be procedurally built as well? Jungle temples could be as enormous as a stronghold or as small as a pillager outpost. Desert temples could have a labyrinth of chambers reaching down to deepslate level, or could soar with obelisks into the sky. The same idea could apply to ocean monuments, ocean ruins, woodland mansions, etc.

In my opinion, more variety is the key to keep exploration fresh. What are your thoughts?

Cheers from Argentina!

Howdy Joel and Pix!

In Episode 238 you mentioned that you would love the ability to halt the growth stages of the Pitcher Plant, and waxing was suggested as a mechanic. I wanted to pop in and also suggest that clipping with shears by right clicking, as we do with cave vines, might work better as a mechanic since it’s more in line with how interacting with other plants work in the game.

Also, I feel like adding an in real life carnivorous plant like the pitcher plant without giving it a game mechanic is a bit of a missed opportunity. I feel the same way about the torch flower. I’d love to see the torch flower emit light. I’m not entirely sure what the game mechanic for the pitcher plant would be, but for the relative challenge they are to get a hold of en masse compared to other flowers, what are some other ways these could be elevated in how they get implemented in the game?

Cheers!

While trying to clip a pitcher plant, CJ found himself clipped and consumed by the carnivorous flytrap.

SUBJECT: Waxing Babies

Hi Jonny and Joel,

With wax now being used to fix sign content, I completely agree with your great idea to use wax to fix crops at certain stages. I’d also suggest that it be used to keep other plants in a fixed state, such as the always-pesky vines.

In extension of this, I’ve always wanted to be able to keep a baby mob in its adorable juvenile state (they grow up so fast!) In Pokémon, an item called an Everstone can keep a Pokémon that holds it from evolving indefinitely. What do you think about further extending the use of honeycomb to serve a similar purpose? I believe a similar principle has been used to mummify humans in honey in real life.

JakeOBlockm was mummified in honey to be perfectly preserved… while still alive.

Pitcher Plant Possibilities

Jonny, and Joel discuss the potential game mechanics that could be applied to the pitcher plant, and the torch flower, and cultivate the idea of Minecraft players having the ability to freeze the growth of plants, crops, flowers, and even animals for a greater variety of foliage aesthetics, storytelling, and new gameplay.
