SUBJECT: World Generation With Henrik Kniberg
Hello Jonny, Hello Joel,
I just finished listening to your recent episode and I really enjoyed it. So interesting to hear from Henrik on the development side of things.
Regarding the thought about making Minecraft terrain variable in the vanilla game with data packs – I had a similar thought on it, but I thought more to expanding the world options in the generation setting.
For example:
- Giving a builder of large projects the option to have a world generated mountain terrain with different level platous that provide a nice accessible building space. Like a “Bob Ross’s Panorama Dream.”
- Or something that does the opposite, generating amplified terrain, but less shattered and more like “the Alpine dream”.
- Or let you combine “old surface + new caves”, or “new mountains + old underground”. All with the new world hight, etc.
I know this means more options and UI but as a User Experience Designer myself I think it would be very possible and satisfying to choose from.
What are your thoughts about it?
I’m such a big fan of your show. Pixlriffs videos were my welcome guide to the Minecraft universe as the pandemic started in March 2020. I also like Joel’s build style a lot. You both are awesome, thanks for entertaining us listeners so brilliantly!
Kindest regards,
Kathi [Fell from a high space while trying to escape tactical tickle]
